I don't know how this evolved, but according to Carter and Addie, a high-5 is not a real high-5 unless it hurts a little. After giving one, they have to ask "did it sting?" or "was it a stinger?" And if not, they go again. Carter's actually do sting quite a bit - he puts about as much force into it as though he was hitting a home run. You can tell by their faces how into they get. So if you come over and ask for a high-5, prepare yourself for a little wincing.
