it's a celebration

We had a great 4th of July up at my mom and dad's this week. It started with Lauren and Adam surprising everyone by driving up from Oklahoma! It's always fun when my sister comes into town, we have a blast together.
The first part of the holiday was spent just hanging around the house:

Then Carter, Grandpa and I went to the parade up in Corbett. It was SO hot, and really crowded. Carter was unsure of things at first and just stood there.

Then the fire trucks came with the big horns, and it was "too loud" so he started crying.


But the people around us were really nice and let Carter pick up a TON of candy that was thrown out to all the kids. He totally scored, and was happy once again. By the time we left, he was saying he wanted to go to the parade again.


Next we had an awesome BBQ, headed up by the grill-master

And last, of course, were the fireworks (and dessert). We had planned to go out to Corbett again to see their show, but couldn't even get close to the launching site, so Grandpa Cam drove Carter around on the 4-wheeler to see neighborhood fireworks, and then we did some at home in the driveway. Carter loved sparklers and "boom-booms" (pop-its), although the quality of the sparklers has really gotten bad. They didn't last more than 2 seconds, and we couldn't even relight them! But we still had fun.


Ahh, oreo cheesecake and cream puffs...need I say more?
